what is the difference between a table saw and a mitre saw or can they both do the same work?

I am thinking about buying one or the other but need to know the difference.

get the table saw , it will do the work of a miter saw

a miter saw is a nice addition to a work shop but it wont do what the table saw can

miter saws are mainly used for cutting pieces of trim and cutting angles on dimensional lumber quickly

Well, you could go down to the tool store and see them both in person. The differences would be obvious.

A table saw is used for larger pieces of wood. The blade can be tilted to do angle cuts.

A mitre saw’s blade can be both turned and tilted to produce compound angle cuts and it is for smaller pieces of wood.

One really can’t replace the other.

I have both, use the compound miter saw much more often. It depends on what type of wood working you are wanting to do.

    Some major differences:
1 – mitre saws cannot be used for long ripping cuts
2 – mitre saws don’t enable use of shaping cutters
3 – compound mitre saws can be used to vary 3 angles, while a table saw is limited to 2
4 – for crosscuts on long pieces, a mitre saw is much more convenient
5 – miter saws are more precise in angular measurements and create a cleaner crosscut

depends on what you want to cut,! a table saw is for cutting Square sections , or Ripping a board, in too, like making a dog house,
a Miter-saw is for cutting angles, bevels, for trim, molding ,angles.they are two completely different saws,
you might consider getting a good hand held one then you can cut a lot of diffrent cuts,

It depends on what kind of work you will be doing. Cutting large sheets of plywood or ripping boards would use a table saw. Cutting 1x or 2x material to length or at angles would use a miter saw. Look at them in the store, that would help you visualize their use compared to your need.

I did cabinet work for many years with only a Skilsaw and a miter saw.
